The Isle Beyond the Mists
This is a tabletop roleplaying game set in a supernatural version of the Caribbean in the year 1721. The players are the crew of the privateer ship, the Hunter's Revenge, and they are after a legendary treasure hoard protected by the Ghost of Henry Morgan. Supernatural obstacles such as the leviathan, spectral pirates, merfolk, and much more must be overcome to reach the treasure.
This game uses Carved from Brindlewood mechanics directly taken from the Between, which is the creation of Jason Cordova and Gauntlet Publishing. However, this product is not associated with Jason Cordova or Gauntlet Publishing, but it is published with their permission.
The playbooks for the Treasure Hunters are:
- The Captain
- The Bosun
- The Picaroon
- The Lorekeeper
- The Vanguard
- The Stowaway
The game comes with the campaign structure of the Ghost of Henry Morgan as the primary antagonist as well as 11 Threats associated with Morgan. Most of these Threats may be played in any order and three that must be unlocked in gameplay. Here are their summaries:
- In which we learn of the Macabre nature of Skeleton Jack: The Treasure Hunters must pursue Skeleton Jack and recover the last piece of the treasure map, while evading British forces in Nassau.
- In which Jimmy Jangle Bones haunts the ship: The ship is haunted by a former crew member and the Treasure Hunters must find a way to appease his spirit.
- In which the Captain experiences a Mutiny: The crew is plotting to overthrow the Captain, so the Treasure Hunters must discover who is being possessed by a mutinous spirit.
- In which we have a ghostly encounter with The Barcelona: A ghostly enemy of Henry Morgan needs some help, and the Treasure Hunters could earn a powerful ally.
- In which the Beast Beneath terrorizes the ship: A leviathan from the deep is pursuing the ship, the Treasure Hunters must find a way to defeat this colossal creature.
- In which the Curse of Neptune’s Folly is apparent: The Hunter’s Revenge is changing into a ghost ship, and it is a race against time for the Treasure Hunters to break the curse.
- In which we discover the danger of Mermaids’ Grotto: The Treasure Hunters are repairing the ship when they find a marooned pirate, if they help him they may find a powerful artifact.
- In which the Fog of Time engulfs the ship: The ship is trapped in a fog that forces it to repeat a battle from long ago, the Treasure Hunters must find a way out of the fog.
- In which we explore Ruins in the Emerald Jungle: (locked) The Captain’s map leads the Treasure Hunters to ancient ruins on the Spanish Main, can they find the location of the Isle Beyond the Mists?
- In which we are surrounded by the Fleet of the Damned: (locked) Captain Montague of the Satisfaction arrives with 15 other ghost ships and an ultimatum. The crew must come up with a plan to escape.
- In which we arrive upon the Isle Beyond the Mist: (locked) The endgame is here, will the Treasure Hunters find the treasure horde or will they finally be stopped by the ghost of Henry Morgan?
It also features 17 Unscenes, paint-the-scene prompts about the Hunter's Revenge (as well as visual cross section) , a short guide for having cinematic naval battles, and a rules reference sheet located in the appendix.
A link to a character keeper will hopefully be added in the future.

Hi there! I'm very excited about this game and I was wondering if character creation and the Skeleton Jack threat could reasonably be accomplished within a four hour slot. I am thinking about running this at a convention...
Skeleton Jack is the prologue and can be done in 4 hours since character creation is pretty quick in CfB games, however, to really get into the weirdness, I would suggest running the Beast Beneath or Mermaids' Grotto minus the optional question.
If you're into sneaking around a port town avoiding the British while looking for an animated skeleton, then go with Skeleton Jack. The complexity is only a 6 so it's doable.
Thank you!
